PBC Canada Charity Endeavours

The Crohn's & Colitis Foundation of Canada

The Crohn's and Colitis Foundation of Canada (CCFC) is a national not-for-profit voluntary medical research Foundation. CCFC is the only Canadian organization dedicated to raising money for research to find the cure for Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis. Over 200,000 Canadian adults and children are affected by these painful and very unpredictable diseases, with over 9,200 new cases diagnosed each year. The CCFC is one of the world’s leaders in non-governmental, per capita funding of IBD research. To date, the Foundation has invested more than $61 million in major medical research projects.

We are also committed to supporting education and outreach. The Foundation provides information on IBD to patients, their families, health professionals and the general public through education brochures, its national member publication The Journal and local education events. The CCFC was started in 1974 by a group of concerned parents who saw the need to raise funds for research into inflammatory bowel disease and to educate patients and their families about these diseases.

The CCFC has over 65,000 supporters and includes members in some 80 local volunteer groups across Canada. The key to the CCFC's success is the interest and work of thousands of volunteers across the country. Volunteers participate in numerous fundraising initiatives throughout the year including; national programs such as M & M Meat Shops Charity BBQ Day, the Fall Fundraiser and the Heel 'n' Wheel-a-Thon (held in the Spring).

PBC Canada's Poker Runs are organized to be able to raise and provide support for charities in and around Canada. Sometimes there are personal connections that lead us to partner with charities or foundations, like The D'Amico Fund, or a rich history of work and love for an organization, like the Children's Wish Foundation of Canada. Whatever the connection the Performance Boat Club of Canada is thrilled to partner with the following charities:

As a result of the Bruce Nicolle Memorial Rice Lake Poker Run held on September 6th, 2008, PBC Canada and it's members were able to raise $12,420.00 in support for the Children's Wish Foundation of Canada. Maureen Nicolle (widow of Bruce Nicolle) made the presentation on behalf of the club.

Orillia Volunteer Firefighters Community Disaster Relief Fund

The Orillia Volunteers Firefighter Association is compromised of 26 volunteer firefighters that assist the career staff of the City of Orillia Fire Department. The association has a rich history of working with and providing assistance to the citizens of Orillia as well as many local organizations.

In 2009 the Orillia Volunteer Firefighters Community Disaster Relief program was started to assist local organizations and individuals with assistance that have been affected by a personal tragedy such as a devastating fire destroying their home and personal possessions or assistance with a medical problem that may requires them to travel great distances.

This program will assist affected persons on an individual basis or through the North Simcoe Victim Crisis Service, Salvation Army or Canadian Red Cross. Our intent is to assist members of the community with the greatest need with immediate assistance.

Our organization has assisted local community members with monetary and labour assistance in the past.

Nippissing Association for Disabled Youth

The Nipissing Association for Disabled Youth (NADY) is a registered charity with the mandate to improve and implement services for developmentally and physically challenged children and young adults. As a charity we are unique in that our board of directors and members are, for the most part, parents of children with special needs. Working together, we support each other as we face similar challenges.

Children's Wish Foundation

Bruce Nicolle Memorial Rice Lake Poker Run - September 6th, 2008

The Children’s Wish Foundation of Canada is the authority on wish granting in our country. With two decades of wish granting, and over 12,000 wishes behind us, we have fulfilled more wishes for children in Canada than any other wish granting agency.

What began in 1983, on the kitchen table of an inspired and committed volunteer, named Laura Cole, has blossomed into a national organization with chapters in every province. From humble beginnings granting fewer than 20 wishes a year The Foundation has established the capacity to fulfill upwards of 800 wishes annually.

The John D'amico Fund

Georgian Bay Hustle for a Cure - July 5th, 2008

The John D'Amico Fund and Hustle for a Cure are a foundation and cause that raises support and awareness for Cancer research, specifically Blood Cancers.

Today in the world of sport, blood cancers have touched many lives, directly or indirectly. In professional hockey alone, Saku Koivu and Jason Blake are living proof of what great strides have been achieved over the years in battling these cancers. Other players who have been affected are Mario Lemieux, John Cullen and Milos Holan. All of these athletes were fortunate enough to fight and win their battle with cancer. From these individuals we can gain strength and inspiration and look to a future without blood cancers. Of these great players in the NHL, one of their colleagues was not as fortunate. His name is Yanick Dupre. Yanick fell victim to a form of leukemia and after only 16 short months, he succumbed to this illness. Yanick was only 24 years of age at the time.

Dreaming for Discovery and Cure

2008 Team United Dream for a Cure Poker Run - July 19th, 2008

Dreaming for Discovery and Cure is an information and fund raising initiative in support of Mitchell Cairo, M.D.’s research to cure lethal childhood cancers, blood and immune diseases.

For over 25 years, Mitchell Cairo, M.D. Chief of the Division of Pediatric Blood and Marrow Transplantation, Professor of Pediatrics, Medicine and Pathology of Columbia University has been leading internationally ground breaking research initiatives in childhood cancer, blood disorders and immune deficiencies.

Incredibly, one in 350 children will be diagnosed with cancer by the age of 18. In 1975 the cure was only 20%. Through innovative clinical and basic research the cure rate of childhood cancer now exceeds 70%.
